Cisco Systems Inc., the largest computer network equipment manufacturer, said it would reduce some 310 jobs at its headquarters in San Jose, California.
Cisco tries to move from dependence on revenue from high-cost equipment, which some customers reject, to software and services. The company has more than 73 000 employees, according to data prepared by Bloomberg.
"Cisco regularly values its business and will always make the necessary changes to manage our portfolio effectively and bring more value to our customers and shareholders," the company said in a statement. "As a result, this may mean the rebalancing of some areas, so we can invest in others such as security, data center / cloud and network creation."
